In this regard the degeneracy caused by columnists, who have increased their power in time among newspaper people, in media organizations is discussed. The problems caused by hegemony of columnists within the profession of news reporting has also been evaluated within this framework. In this paper the weight of columnists in Turkish national press has been examined through the change in columns and news reports in the last 20 years. The research which was limited to H\u00fcrriyet, Sabah, Milliyet and Zaman newspapers which political newspapers published and distributed nationally on a daily basis display that columns still dominate newspapers. A comparative analysis of the columnist problem of Turkey with western journalism profession used the column numbers in such newspapers as H\u00fcrriyet, Sabah, Milliyet, Zaman and American USA Today and The Washington Post, and British The Daily Telegraph until 2015 using daily data.
