Abstract: <\/strong> In the scope of this study, the development of Kocaeli Industry is examined along accompany of industrialization efforts in Ottoman Empire and the adventure experienced in transformation of traditional economic system of empire through this process. Within the framework of industrialization efforts in the 19th century, some basic natures of Ottoman economic system that had been ongoing by protection in general frame were converted in this cause -with a big effort spread to decades- and it has been made more convenient with the terms of current industrial development. As approaching to the end of the 19th century, Ottoman economy was able to adapt to the new conditions brought about by industrial revolution, as a result of continuous efforts in a persistent manner despite the failures in industrial investments occurred in the early stages. More clearly, some of the industrial investments made in this process were successful to such an extent that can produce with international standards. However, economic and political policies in the period of the Committee of Union and Progress have almost destroyed the industrialization gains of one hundred years, which finally came to adaptation stage with European industry. Today\u2019s city of Kocaeli constituted one of the most important parts of mentioned industrialization process that was ongoing in the 19th century. Factories established in Sanjak of Izmit in this process transformed Izmit city (Kocaeli) into an industrial centre in terms of textile industry, which is the most important sub-branch of Ottoman industry. In this study, it is deduced that this situation had a significant effect on the city of \u0130zmit (or Kocaeli) to be considered as an alternative place for establishment of industrial investments during the early Republic period.<\/p>\n

\u00d6zet: <\/strong> \u00c7al\u0131\u015fma kapsam\u0131nda Kocaeli Sanayiinin geli\u015fimi, Osmanl\u0131\u2019daki sanayile\u015fme \u00e7abalar\u0131 ve bu s\u00fcre\u00e7te imparatorlu\u011fun geleneksel iktisadi sisteminde ya\u015fanan d\u00f6n\u00fc\u015f\u00fcm ser\u00fcveni e\u015fli\u011finde incelenmektedir. 19. y\u00fczy\u0131ldaki sanayile\u015fme \u00e7abalar\u0131 \u00e7er\u00e7evesinde, y\u00fczy\u0131llard\u0131r genel hatlar\u0131yla korunarak s\u00fcregelen Osmanl\u0131 iktisadi sisteminin baz\u0131 temel nitelikleri, -ony\u0131llara yay\u0131lan bir \u00e7abayla- bu u\u011furda d\u00f6n\u00fc\u015ft\u00fcr\u00fclerek s\u0131na\u00ee kalk\u0131nman\u0131n ko\u015fullar\u0131na daha uygun hale getirilmi\u015ftir. Ger\u00e7ekle\u015ftirilen s\u0131na\u00ee yat\u0131r\u0131mlarda ilk a\u015famada ya\u015fanan ba\u015far\u0131s\u0131zl\u0131klara ra\u011fmen \u0131srarl\u0131 bir \u015fekilde s\u00fcrd\u00fcr\u00fclen \u00e7abalar neticesinde, 19. y\u00fczy\u0131l\u0131n sonlar\u0131na yakla\u015f\u0131l\u0131rken Osmanl\u0131 ekonomisi art\u0131k yeni ko\u015fullara intibak edebilmi\u015f durumdad\u0131r. \u00d6yle ki, bu s\u00fcre\u00e7te ger\u00e7ekle\u015ftirilen s\u0131na\u00ee yat\u0131r\u0131mlar\u0131n bir k\u0131sm\u0131 uluslararas\u0131 standartlarda \u00fcretim yapabilecek \u00f6l\u00e7\u00fcde ba\u015far\u0131 sa\u011flam\u0131\u015ft\u0131r. Ancak \u0130ttihat ve Terakki d\u00f6nemindeki iktisadi ve siyasi politikalar, nihayet Avrupa sanayii ile intibak a\u015famas\u0131na gelmi\u015f olan y\u00fcz y\u0131ll\u0131k sanayile\u015fme kazan\u0131mlar\u0131n\u0131 adeta y\u0131k\u0131ma u\u011fratm\u0131\u015ft\u0131r. 19. y\u00fczy\u0131l boyunca devam eden sanayile\u015fme ve fabrikala\u015fma s\u00fcrecinin en \u00f6nemli halkalar\u0131ndan birini de bug\u00fcnk\u00fc Kocaeli \u015fehri te\u015fkil etmi\u015ftir. Bu s\u00fcre\u00e7te \u0130zmit Sanca\u011f\u0131\u2019nda tesis edilen ve Osmanl\u0131 sanayiinin en \u00f6nemli alt kolu olan dokuma sanayii a\u00e7\u0131s\u0131ndan \u0130zmit Sanca\u011f\u0131\u2019n\u0131 bir sanayi merkezine d\u00f6n\u00fc\u015ft\u00fcren fabrikalar\u0131n, erken Cumhuriyet d\u00f6nemindeki ilk b\u00fcy\u00fck sanayi yat\u0131r\u0131mlar\u0131 i\u00e7in \u015fehrin bir kurulu\u015f yeri namzedi olarak de\u011ferlendirilmesinde de etkili oldu\u011fu d\u00fc\u015f\u00fcn\u00fclmektedir.<\/p>\n
